GEMBALLA AVALANCHE

3RD GENERATION

GEMBALLA AVALANCHE (3rd Generation)

Unstoppable force

Another French word adopted into English, Avalanche is universally understood as a force of nature that sees tons of snow cascading down a mountainside, burying everything in its path. The GEMBALLA AVALANCHE is another unstoppable force. The original AVALANCHE from 1984/1985 had a rousing 385hp. This was enough power to enable it to visit the far side of 300 km/h, making it one of the fastest cars of its time.

The current 991 Turbo-based model boasts 825 hp (607 kW) and 1,098 Nm of torque, and covers the 0-62 mph sprint in 2.4 sec. Visually, this elemental force on wheels has a three-piece front spoiler and large air intakes spread across its under-bumper area. Modified side intakes and a larger, fixed rear spoiler complete the bodywork modifications.

Aerodynamics

The aggressive looking aerodynamic add-on parts are manufactured in Germany. To ensure a quick and accurate fit to the OEM mounting points, the base car is digitally mapped to fractions of a millimeter.

Fine balancing

Effective aerodynamics result from a combination of a low drag coefficient (Cd) and downforce. Drag increases with the square of speed, so this is a fine balancing act since a disproportionate increase in engine power is required to overcome a minimal increase in drag. While lowering drag maximises what power you have, slippery cars are quite often aerodynamically unstable, with lifting forces over the front and rear axles making them unstable at high speed and in crosswinds. Spoilers at the front and rear of the car are used to counter lift over each axle, and can be adjusted to create zero lift, or downforce. However, front and rear spoilers have to be balanced against each other so that they do not induce dangerous aerodynamic imbalance at speed.

Wind tunnel

Just as a major car manufacturer would, GEMBALLA’s developed its initial aerodynamic proposal for the AVALANCHE with a combination of aesthetic styling and computer calculations. Combined with raw experience, this delivered an approximate level of aerodynamic efficiency for the new components, which was then honed to perfection in the wind tunnel. While the bonnet, front and rear aprons, side skirts and side panels with their recesses differentiate the AVALANCHE significantly from the base Turbo, the focal point of the aerodynamic design concept is the two-position adjustable carbon-fibre rear wing, that gives the rear aspect its distinctive character.

"Form follows function"

Just as a major car manufacturer would, GEMBALLA’s developed its initial aerodynamic proposal for the AVALANCHE with a combination of aesthetic styling and computer calculations. Combined with raw experience, this delivered an approximate level of aerodynamic efficiency for the new components, which was then honed to perfection in the wind tunnel. Suspension, Wheels and Brakes

From an engineering point of view the AVALANCHE is a comprehensively thought out and engineered vehicle. Part and parcel of this technical tour de force are the ventilated fender flares, that create enough space for the 21-inch, forged alloy wheels. Created with a high-tech forging process for low weight and high strength, these wheels help to reduce the unsprung weight at each corner, contributing to the cars superior acceleration, handling and braking performance.

For perfect stability under extreme use, the calipers are machined from a solid billet of high temperature alloy, Formula One style, and are approximately half the weight of the OEM ones.

Exhaust & Engine

The original AVALANCHE was named after an Alpine force of nature, and since the 1980s, has been the symbolic spearhead of all GEMBALLA cars based on the Porsche 911 Turbo. The current model, based on a Porsche 991 Turbo / Turbo S Coupe, makes 825 hp and 1,098 Nm of torque in GTR tune. With this output level, the AVALANCHE far surpasses the speed of a real avalanche, sprinting to 100 km/h from a standing start in 3.1 sec, and on to 337km/h. GEMBALLA’s stainless steel high-performance exhaust system with equal-length headers gives the AVALANCHE powerful and sporty soundtrack.

Interior

An AVALANCHE would not be an AVALANCHE without an opulently refined interior. For this purpose, the GEMBALLA upholsterers have transformed the interior of the series cockpit with luxuriant black and white leather, Alcantara and visible carbon fibre into an individualised nerve centre - created with the best manufacturing quality. Right down to the smallest detail, GEMBALLA performs refinement, painting control knobs, placing contrasting decorative stitching and self-assuredly illuminating the GEMBALLA logo and the AVALANCHE writing on the dashboard and headrests.

No matter whether it is because of its opulent interior, extroverted design or its engine power, the AVALANCHE also succeeds in continuing the myth in its third generation and is taking the company into a successful future - as proven by the torrent of requests from interested customers from all over the world.
